Being a Southern gal…I LOVE BISCUITS! So when I received a cool little pop-up in my Facebook News Feed with an amazing looking biscuit in my face, I was intrigued.
Located on this cute little strip of clothing boutiques, furnitures stores, restaurants and coffee houses, Holler & Dash is a very recent addition to the Birmingham, well Homewood, landscape. When you first walk in, it definitely has a very cool vibe with its industrial interior and the prices didn’t hurt my feelings at all. Very affordable, but most importantly, delicious! Their menu is diverse and includes beignets, tater tots, salads, parfaits, Anson Mills grits and even chocolate milk coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Oh yes, you heard me right…Chocolate.Milk.Coffee. (insert gasp here).
Anyways, looking at the menu I was completely stumped. Everything looked so good and I wanted to try every single biscuit, but when trying a place for the first time…always go with what they are known for. Therefore, the biscuit I chose was the Chicken Holler. Now I went a little rogue in my ordering as I got the medium Holler sauce on the side and, of course, added a fried egg. Again, southern gal here. NOTE: The Holler Sauce is accurately named, which is why I got it on the side instead of it being on the chicken already. If you like hot, then go for it! However, yours truly is a little of a wimp when it comes to sauces, so on the side for me every time.
This flaky yet light and buttery biscuit was absolutely delicious and super filling. The chicken was fried perfectly with an even coating of batter, yet it wasn’t so much batter that you lost the moist chicken it enveloped. These are very important frying practices my friend! The egg was also perfectly runny and the cheese gooey, adding that little hint of a sharp and salty bite. Literally awesomeness at its finest. Oh did I mention their bread and butter pickles? These were a nice contrast with the heat and saltiness of the biscuit for sure.
My husband Eric got the Kickback Chicken biscuit that has goat cheese, green onion and this sweet pepper jelly that I think is probably the most amazing pepper jelly I have ever had…no joke. Of course I tasted his! But being for serious for a second, I could literally bathe in this pepper jelly it was SOO GOOD! A new addition to my original Chicken Holler biscuit, you ask? Why of course!
Needless to say, if you are ever in the Birmingham area and want an amazing breakfast, check out Holler & Dash Biscuit House. Then, walk off your food baby by visiting the numerous boutiques and cute little stores that line 28th Avenue. Word of caution, this place is always packed so if you decide to go on a weekend, you better be ready to wait a little while. However, early on a weekday morning you should be golden.
Happy eating!!
